Expressive Dance stems from a Psycho-Corporal Therapy called the Rio Abierto System. At its core is the notion that as we work on our body we are, inevitably, impacting on our mind and feelings. For instance, did you ever notice how the mere act of walking can affect your mood? A little experiment you can try for yourself when you are upset is to go for a brisk walk and watch unsettling emotions fade away.

Yet daily life and its rules, routine, responsibilities, obligations and sometimes hectic  schedules… can take us far away from this fundamental connection to our bodies, take us away from ourselves…

This is what motivated me to create Expressive Dance. Every Expressive Dance session provides the very space which is sometimes lacking from everyday life: a respectful, non-judgmental space where people can feel and express themselves genuinely.

In actual facts Expressive Dance is about remembering what we once knew and forgot: this method reconnects us to our inner child. It helps us inhabit our body as we used to when we were born. Inhabiting our body means being in touch with and expressing what we feel, need and want. Experiencing the sheer joy of feeling alive! It is a way of re-instilling creativity, self-acceptance, happiness, compassion, confidence and respect into our lives!

Each session is facilitated with a view to enable people to become more centered and respectful of themselves and others. Ultimately the goal is to help individuals lead fulfilled lives and accept themselves fully: “light and darkness”. So Expressive Dance is, basically, a space to experience the freedom to be who we are, joyfully!
